Summary and Suggestions
A glimpse of what happened in that month that was...
SUMMARY
To wander and to teach are both of my passion. I love travelling to different places as well as cultivating the young minds of tomorrow. That is why when a rare opportunity came to achieve both, I was firm to say yes; thus, this SEA Teacher Project of the SEAMEO where students from ASEAN countries experience teaching to another ASEAN country to be molded and be shaped into the teachers the world can be proud of. For the 26 days of staying in Padang, I can say that all of us acquired the significance of this program. We were able to dive into the rich cultural heritage of Padang and be blessed with a broader view in cultural diversity. We were able to practice and hone our communication skills especially when speaking English. We learned how to adjust in a different environments; from ordering Gojek to speaking to the friendly locals and indulging in different scrumptious delicacies such as Nasi Goreng and Rendang. We obtained notable experiences and from which we also learned valuable life lessons. We looked through the lenses of the teachers in Padang: how they teach and take care of the students. We were given a better understanding on Padang's educational system. Truly, this program changed and marked our lives big time.
I still can't believe that the internship ended already last week. The memories of preparing for the program still play on mind: from securing our passport to booking our tickets and securing all the other documents that is needed, Time surely is fast. I consider my participation successful. All I wish right now is that may all the participants including me, keep in mind all the learnings that we have acquired in the program. May we use this experience to foster and develop our expertise in the academe. To SEAMEO, cheers for the success of this program! May you extend this opportunity to the next batches of sea teachers. To UNP, with such world-class qualities it is no woner why you are one of best in Indonesia! Thank you for accomodating us in the comfort of your institution!
SUGGESTIONS
I am beyond happy and satisfied with my experince in Padang although, I just have a few suggestions:
-
I think it would me much of a help to the participants next time if food and transportation are free. I am not complaining or anything but my fellow students in Yogyakarta and Jambi are given these freebies so I think it would be delightful if the participants in Padang also experience the same treatment.
-
There should be a DTR (Daily Time Record) given to each participants when they are assigned to their respective schools. In that way, it can be assured that they really spent 20 hours in their school
Terimah kasih and Mabuhay!!
